The final chapter in the life of Mother Geraldine Doiger was written Tuesday, September 17, 2019, at 9:06 a.m. at home in the loving care of her children LeBaron J. Lee, Sr. and Rev. TaMara Williams.   Her departure from this earth opened the door to God’s heavenly kingdom and promise to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord.

Her journey began in Chicago, Illinois on September 27, 1926, the second eldest of seven children born to William H. and Ruth (Yates) Slaughter.  There were 6 other siblings, (Howard, Mattie, Rudolph, Adolph, Christine and Aaron White, Jr.)

She accepted Christ in her life as a child being raised in her Uncle Charles A. Brent, Good Hope Church of God and Christ.  In 1954 she joined Stone Temple Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor James M. Stone, she was the church secretary for twenty (20) years.  She attended Tennyson Elementary School and Du Sable High School and later studied nursing at Crane Jr. College.   Her vocation led her to work for Dr. William A. Bowman in Chicago as a receptionist and nurse for over 30 years.  As an avid entrepreneur Mother Doiger owned Gerri’s Mini Maid Service and Doiger's Auto Repair and Salvage Yard and managed to be active in various church and civic groups.

In a union with Brooks Nicholson in 1941 her eldest child, Le Baron J. (Nicholson-Slaughter) Lee was born in 1942.  She later married the late James A. Lee in 1946 and to this union two children were born, SaCairo Rochelle Lee and TaMara Yvonne Lee; James adopted Le Baron the eldest child.  On August 9, 1964 she was joined in Holy Matrimony to Allen Doiger Jr. and this union lasted until his passing in October 14, 2001. (37 years)

She joined Fountain of Faith Baptist Missionary Baptist Church in 1994 and remained a member until her death.  Mother Doiger was honored a by the Fountain of Faith Mother’s Board in July 2019 as “Mother Emeritus.”   Mother Doiger carried a deep love for Pastor Reginald B. Newman and his wife Patrina and their family.  In fact she sincerely loved the entire Fountain of Faith church family and has held them close to her heart.  Always the ultimate entrepreneur as she organized fish frys, feed the poor and did anything she could to help Fountain of Faith Baptist Church grow to help others.  Mother Doiger will be remembered as a bright, shining light and “go getter” in the various communities and churches she served.

Mother Doiger is preceded in death by her Father and Mother, brothers: Howard, Rudolph, Adolph, Aaron and Sister Mattie, husbands: James A. Lee - Allen Doiger Jr., son: Sa Cairo Lee and grandson Sean Lee.
